Meet Tandi! 💕
 
Tandi is a Sub-Adult Velvet Illustris spider still waiting for her big burst of color to arrive, so you might find ger current look a bit spooky! Tandi is very calm, adorable, and full of charm, the perfect long-term companion for someone who appreciates quieter, shy spiders.
 
Note that Velvet spiders are completely different from Regals and other jumpers in terms of care, so please read on for specific care considerations before adopting! 
 
Velvet Spider Care:
Velvet spiders do not require any water, receive all nutrients and moisture through their meals, and they have a much longer lifespan. Hurley recently entered the sub-adult stage, giving him a long life ahead of about 4-5 years.
 
Velvets are super sweet, gentle little goobers with the cutest and goofiest walk. While you can hold a velvet spider infrequently, they’re not like jumping spiders who want to come hang out with you on a daily basis. Velvets prefer to hide in their nest, and they are opportunistic predators. Because of this, they rarely leave the messy web nest built up around themselves in case a meal comes walking by.
 
Velvet spiders need a home with cross-ventilation, and most critically, LOW HUMIDITY. You cannot mist or water velvet spiders at all, they absorb all moisture through their meals. The medium 3x3x5.75 enclosure is an ideal size for velvets until they gets bigger. Because they wait are ambush predators and wait for prey to come to them, bigger setups can make it extra hard to find food.
